Neck Pain Chiropractor in De Pere, WI
Neck pain can follow long periods at a desk, repeated activity, a minor strain, age-related joint changes, or an injury. It may remain near the neck and shoulders or travel into an arm. At Back In Action Chiropractic Center, Dr. Steven Hansen evaluates the full pattern before recommending care.
Your visit begins with a conversation about what you feel, how it started, and how it affects sleep, work, driving, and movement. A focused examination helps separate common musculoskeletal discomfort from symptoms that need medical evaluation or a different type of care.
The cervical spine
What Is Neck Pain?
The neck includes vertebrae, joints, discs, muscles, ligaments, the spinal cord, and nerve roots. Irritation in any of these structures can contribute to pain or stiffness. A neck sprain or strain can follow an awkward or sudden movement. A nerve in the neck may also become irritated, causing pain that travels into the shoulder or arm with tingling, numbness, or weakness. Similar symptoms can come from other conditions, so a careful history and examination are important.
Your questions, your goals
Neck Symptoms We Can Evaluate
Dr. Hansen may evaluate common neck and upper-body symptoms such as:
- Neck stiffness or reduced comfortable range of motion
- Aching between the neck and upper shoulders
- Symptoms related to prolonged postures or repeated activity
- Pain that changes with head, neck, or shoulder movement
- Discomfort after a minor strain once urgent injury is excluded
- Arm tingling, numbness, or weakness that needs appropriate screening
New weakness, loss of coordination, trouble walking, severe headache, fever, chest pain, or symptoms after a significant collision or fall need prompt medical attention. Sudden severe neck pain with neurological changes should not wait for a routine chiropractic appointment.

Your Visit at Back In Action
Conversation About Your Neck Pain
We review when the pain began, recent injuries, work and sleep demands, arm symptoms, health conditions, and what you hope to do more comfortably.
Focused Examination
Dr. Hansen assesses comfortable neck movement and relevant musculoskeletal and neurological findings without assuming that every symptom has the same source.
Review of Relevant Records
Bring any recent reports or images. Additional imaging is considered only when your history and examination raise a specific clinical question.
Clear Care Recommendation
If conservative chiropractic care is appropriate, the recommended approach is explained before treatment, including what it is intended to address.
Response and Function Check
Progress is judged by meaningful changes in comfort, movement, and daily function. New symptoms or limited progress may change the plan.

Frequently asked questions
Neck Pain FAQs
Why does my neck pain travel into my arm?
A nerve root in the neck can become irritated or compressed, sometimes causing pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness into the shoulder, arm, or hand. Shoulder, elbow, wrist, and other medical conditions can create similar symptoms, so an examination is useful.
Does posture cause neck pain?
Prolonged or repeated positions can contribute to discomfort for some people, but posture is only one possible factor. Work demands, sleep, activity, stress, an injury, and age-related changes may also matter. The visit considers your individual pattern.
Will I need an X-ray?
Not everyone with neck pain needs imaging. The decision depends on your history, examination, recent injury, and the clinical question being considered. Existing images may be reviewed when they are relevant.
Are chiropractic adjustments right for every neck complaint?
No. Some patients need a modified approach, another conservative option, or medical evaluation. Dr. Hansen reviews your history and examination findings before recommending any neck treatment and explains the proposed approach first.
When is neck pain urgent?
Seek prompt or emergency medical care for severe pain after major trauma, new arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, fever with severe stiffness, chest pain, or a sudden severe headache. These symptoms need medical assessment before routine care.
What should I expect after the first visit?
You should understand the likely next step, whether chiropractic care appears appropriate, and what changes would require medical follow-up. A first visit does not guarantee a diagnosis or a particular treatment.
