Imaging when clinically appropriate

Chiropractic Digital X-Rays in De Pere, WI

Digital X-rays may provide useful information when a specific clinical question needs to be answered during a chiropractic assessment. At Back In Action Chiropractic Center, imaging is considered alongside your health history, symptoms, and examination findings, never as a substitute for a thoughtful evaluation.

Dr. Steven Hansen recommends digital imaging when it is clinically appropriate to better understand your spinal health and help guide a more precise treatment approach. If imaging is not needed, we will discuss other appropriate next steps.

V.PLATE V · DIGITAL X-RAY EVALUATION

What Is a Digital X-Ray Evaluation?

Radiography, commonly called an X-ray, uses a small amount of ionizing radiation to create an image. A digital system captures that image electronically for clinical review. In chiropractic care, imaging may be used to help answer a question raised by your history or examination.

An X-ray is an evaluation tool, not a treatment. It does not replace a full examination and cannot identify every possible cause of pain or movement concerns. The decision to use imaging should reflect your individual needs and the information needed to guide care.

Your questions, your goals

When Imaging May Be Recommended

Dr. Hansen may consider digital X-rays when they could help answer a clinical question or guide an appropriate next step. This may include:

  • Reviewing relevant spinal structures
  • Clarifying examination findings
  • Considering a prior injury or health history
  • Reviewing symptoms that need more information
  • Avoiding unnecessary repeat imaging
  • Helping guide a personalized care recommendation

Not every patient needs X-rays. Bring any recent X-ray, MRI, or other imaging reports to your visit so Dr. Hansen can review available information before recommending another study.

The right information for your plan

A Careful Approach to Digital Imaging

At Back In Action, an X-ray is not an automatic part of every new patient visit. We first listen to your concerns, review your history, and perform an examination. If imaging can help answer a clinical question or guide a recommendation, we will explain its purpose before proceeding.

We also encourage you to bring previous imaging whenever possible. Reviewing relevant prior studies can help avoid unnecessary duplication and gives the clinician a more complete view of the information already available.

Frequently asked questions

Digital X-Ray Evaluation FAQs

What is a digital X-ray?

A digital X-ray is a radiographic image captured with a digital detector. It may give the clinician additional information when used for a specific clinical question.

Will I need X-rays at my first visit?

Not necessarily. Dr. Hansen reviews your health history and examination findings first, then recommends imaging only when it is clinically appropriate.

Does an X-ray hurt?

X-ray imaging itself is not painful. You may be asked to hold a position briefly while the image is taken.

Should I bring previous imaging?

Yes. Bring recent X-rays, MRI results, or other relevant imaging so they can be reviewed before repeating a study.

What should I tell the office before imaging?

Tell the office about prior imaging, relevant health conditions, and whether you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant. This helps determine whether imaging is appropriate.

Are X-rays safe?

X-rays use ionizing radiation, which is why they should be performed only when clinically appropriate. A medically appropriate exam is intended to provide useful information that helps guide care.
